Newport pool team pots a special sponsorship with ETB

ETB’s Retail Director Paul Nunn hands over a cheque for £1,000

One of Newport’s most popular pool teams is celebrating a big break of its own, after potting a £500 sponsorship from ETB Autocentres for striking new team shirts.

Isabella Randoms are looking pretty in pink on the green baize thanks to our gesture and they’re already chalking up a number of compliments about the tops, as they stand out from the pack in style.

The Kingsway-based team, who meet every Thursday at Isabella’s Sports Club and also play in the Newport & District Pool League on Sundays, are one of the most respected clubs in the area and welcome players of all abilities.

The sponsorship came via our Lydney centre manager, Justin Davison, who runs the Newport team, and aligns perfectly with our “We Care” philosophy, which recognises that supporting communities, customers and colleagues extends far beyond our garage doors.

Made up of 13 players from across South Wales, Isabella Randoms compete in the popular Newport & District Pool League, one of the region’s most vibrant grassroots cue-sport set-ups.

But for Justin and his players, success is measured in smiles, not scorelines. “The team plays for fun first and foremost,” he said. “We want people of all abilities to feel welcome, relaxed and part of something positive. That’s what keeps everyone coming back.”

Justin, 37, added that running the team has also been invaluable for his own wellbeing. With many of our technicians working in a male-dominated and often high-pressure environment, he’s keen to encourage colleagues to find a hobby that helps them decompress.

“Pool gives me a couple of hours where I can switch off from work, clear my head and just enjoy the moment,” he explained. “It’s done wonders for my mental health, and I’d urge anyone to find something they love that helps them do the same.

“Everyone at the club thanks ETB for their generous support. We’ll be spreading the name far and wide when playing at pubs and pool clubs across South Wales!”
