Mel counts a thousand reasons to visit ETB Newbury!

A Thatcham motorist is feeling grand after a visit to ETB Newbury for an MOT put her on a journey to win £1,000.

When Mel Giacomet made a routine pit stop at the Paddock Trading Estate centre on June 3, her only hope was that her beloved Citroen Picasso would past its test…

…But the appointment surpassed her wildest expectations as she ended up winning ETB’s competition which she almost forgot that she entered into.

She hopes that the four-figure prize will now go towards a family holiday to Disneyland in Paris, in 2022 all being well, with Esme, Luca and her husband Carl.

She said: “I never win anything, so I was shocked when I was told that I’d won £1,000 with ETB.

“When I took my car in, I thought nothing more of it. When I got the call the other day to say I had won, I thought someone was joking. We’ve done the National Lottery for years now and we’ve barely won a thing, so this is an incredible feeling.”

ETB Newbury organised the free-to-enter competition to celebrate its grand opening in 2021, where any motorist visiting for an automotive repair or service could opt in to the initiative to win the four-figure prize. The £70,000 centre offers the full range of automotive services including MOTs, servicing, batteries, wheel balancing, brakes and all other mechanical repairs. Its investment in the latest Hunter wheel alignment equipment also makes it one of the most technologically advanced garages in the local area for this nature of work.

Mel added: “We decided to go to ETB because the prices are so competitive and the environment looks so welcoming.

“Everything is so clean, fresh and new and the staff are extremely friendly too. It’s a really, really nice place to be and as a retail experience, I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Each technician made me feel so welcome, so it’s safe to say that I made the right decision!

“We’d love to go to Disneyland on holiday next year, so the money will hopefully get us there. To be honest, I still can’t believe that this has happened. It’s a huge amount to win.”

ETB’s marketing manager John Tear said: “We wanted to celebrate our arrival in Newbury with our new customers in a memorable way, which is why we set up the competition.

“We’ve been building a customer-base from scratch, having purchased a brand new premises and sourcing a new team of technicians at the start of the year. To do this during the pandemic has been no mean feat and to see Mel looking so thrilled with her family is a major highlight of our short time in Newbury.

“We’ll be doing all we can to create more memorable experiences for motorists in the future.”
